Today, something very different. Recently, the wonderful people at the Canadian clothing company JACOB asked if I would be interested in reviewing one of their new dresses for the summer season. I've been a big fan of JACOB's for a long time, so I was happy and honoured to be asked.
They have so many beautiful dresses this season, but I narrowed it down to this lovely black and white number called the Playful Polka-Dot Dress, because it's quintessentially what JACOB has to offer: well made, timeless pieces that can be worn at work and casually. The dress is in a soft, high quality polyester fabric, and it's lined, which is always a great touch. This dress is great on its own, but it's also the perfect blank canvass, and can be worn many different ways, and I wanted to show you two ways I'd style this dress:
One look for the Weekend and one for Work.
For the Weekend Look, I threw on my favourite, worn in, been-all-over-the-world-in-it denim jacket, a couple of wooden bracelets and a pair of canvass shoes. Voila, an easy outfit to run around the city, visit friends, do errands, enjoy the day.
For the Work Look, I want to liven it up with pops of colour. I paired it with a bright coloured blazer, my gold charm bracelet, and blue suede heels. Tada, ready for work!
I work in a creative, and casual environment, but if you're in a more corporate office, throw on a black blazer and nude closed toe pumps and you're set.
For another fun look, get a white denim vest, and brown boots.
Or pile on tons of gold bracelets and friendships bands, a pair of spiked heels and a leather jacket and you're ready to party.
In the Fall, I'd cover up with a red cardigan cardigan or a grey sweater and wear my favourite flat suede boots, and a pretty scarf.
Now one thing to keep in mind is fit. I've gained weight this year, close to 10 pounds above my normal weight (I'm not dealing with this gracefully), and I seldom buy things online because I generally like to feel the fabric and get a better sense of how the garment will fit by trying it on. I carefully reviewed the size chart on JACOB's website and even though the chart clearly indicated that I should go for an XS, I decided to "play it safe", and asked for a size Small.
As you can see, the dress is too big. I could exchange it for an XS or just get it tailored. But my point is, you should keep this in mind when you're shopping on the site - don't make silly mistakes like me, use JACOB's size chart on their website, it's accurate and you'll get a proper fit.
Despite being a bit big for me, I really like this dress, and the best part is that it's on sale right now. It was $99 just a couple of weeks ago, and now it's on for $59.40!
If you get it, definitely send me a note, and a picture of how you've styled it! I'd love to feature you on the blog!
Thank you folks at JACOB for asking me to review this dress.
And thank you guys so much for stopping by, let me know what you think.
