Winnie The Pooh and Piglet Get Street

While I love these more "urban" images of Winnie and Piglet, they remind me of a cultural trend that's actually kind of annoying. Have you noticed that everything has to have an edge or attitude? Specifically in advertising? Your gum won't just freshen your breath, but it will smash bad breath out of your face! And you can't just have regular mayo, your mayo is young and hip. Chocolate bars don't taste good, they explode and assault your taste buds. Stains aren't just removed from your clothing, they're frightened away by a powerful abrasive bleach. Even a certain sports team in Toronto changed their logo from a beautiful blue bird, to an edgy creature that looks more like a shark. I know this may sound crazy, but all of these references are real ones. And if you pay attention, you'll notice that so much of advertising and marketing has to do with aggressiveness and attitude. What's the deal?
I'd rather opt for gentleness, kindness, and patience.

Thanks so much for coming by this weekend. And if you didn't get to see all the fun pictures with Marcin Moka, please go through last week's posts. You'll enjoy his photography.

  16. I love the graffiti, but I'm with you: I prefer keeping things classic instead of always trying to put an edge on them. Love the outfit, like usual! :)

  20. Your last photo is fierce, and naturally I mean that in a non-edgy way. Love the Pooh and Piglet backdrop - perfect illustration of the point.

  32. Not to be a stickler, but a certain Toronto sports team has gone back to their old-school logo. ;)

You look lovely - I'm so digging the leopard belt.

  33. Natasha its my first time on your blog and I love it already. Completely agree with you about the urban world's over the top emphasis on "Edgy". Just for the heck of newness, things are expected to be jilting.

  34. I totally agree with you on the patience, kindness and gentle part! Society's making it seem that it's okay to be aggressive in contexts that do not require it! =D Love the atmosphere of your blog!
