This is kind of what I look like, because today is a moving day, in two senses, but I'll explain that in a bit.
First thing I should tell you is that last year my dad was diagnosed with cancer and lost the ability to walk. You can get more details about that on this post. He spent 7 - 8 months between four hospitals. In August he went home. But not his home. My parents own a lovely townhouse in the historic neighbourhood of Cabbagetown in downtown Toronto, but the problem is that these homes aren't great if you have any kind of mobility problems. In August my father was still in a wheelchair full time, and it was going to cost tens of thousands of dollars to make the house accessible. Lots of staircases, including six steps just to get to the front door. We decided that it wasn't worth making all these changes to the house, since we were all determined and confident that my dad would walk again ...it was just a matter of time.
Chris and I, live just 6 blocks away in a condo building, that was designed with accessibility in mind. So we made a decision to switch homes. Chris and I moved into my parents' house, to live with my sister. And my parents moved into our very wheelchair accessible apartment. We switched homes.
Well, guess what? After months of intense physiotherapy and hard work, my father is able to move back into his home, his actual home. So today is moving day. We're switching homes again. But it's also a very moving day because it's been a long, challenging journey to get here. Who says you can't go home again?
Congratulations mom and dad, welcome home!
So this is kind of what my packing looks like.
And this is what my poor car looks like.
And this is sort of what I feel like.
And while I'm happy that life is going back to normal, my heart aches a lot because we've decided to leave our cat Basil with my parents in their house. But I'll be visiting him....and my parents ...but mostly my cat a lot.
Thanks for stopping by on our moving day guys, I'll be back with an outfit post tomorrow.
