Necklace
There isn't much fun shopping to be done in downtown Montevideo, Uruguay. But when we were there last year, Chris and I did find this little shop in between used bookstores and directly across from the Teatro Solis called Tiempo Funky (literally Funky Time in Spanish). I don't love the name of the shop but I loved almost everything I found inside, including this necklace with little doves on it.
I met the designer that made it and ran the shop and couldn't resist getting the necklace. The problem is, it's beaded all the way around which it makes it impossible to wear the necklace for more than a few minutes because it starts pinching my skin around my neck. Plus it's really heavy. So now I just hang the necklace on my bedroom wall like a piece of art, at least it gets admired everyday since I'll probably never wear it.

Pink Polish and White Skulls
This super cute girl was taking a picture of one of her friends, note the camera still in her hands, and I figured she would appreciate it if someone would take a picture of her.
These so much going on here. The hat, the glasses, pink polish on the nails, skull and cross-bones on her scarf.
LV purse, high-waisted purple pants and an ironic T. And she pulls it all off beautifully.

Perfect A-frame
This picture was taken from the window seat at One of a Kind Pasta on Queen West. The place doesn't look like much, but it has the best pasta in the city. And if you get a seat by the large, darkly tinted window, it's a great place to people watch.

Your favourite fashion designers have been given an animated makeover. In the April edition of Elle Magazine in Spain, top designers have been illustrated as popular Disney characters. Daisy never looked so Diva before. Que lindo.

Happy Feet
These are the delightful and colourful feet/shoes of Laura, the new intern at work.
She's a little nervous about having her feet on display like this, but she's being a good sport about it. I'll try to reveal more of Laura in the days to come but only piece by piece, and only in EXTREME CLOSEUPS!

Suspend
I love seeing young guys wearing styles that may be considered a bit old for them.
But anyone who can wear suspenders with such confidence, and not be Larry King, deserves some kudos.

Montevideo
Fashion Shoot: Montevideo, Uruguay
My partner Chris and I were in Uruguay's capital city recently. A very sleepy, historic, town. This fashion shoot we happened upon was a hit of colour on this grey side street. And Chris managed to get some great shots of our model and photographers at work.

Fab
So to further my obsession with flora in the Spring time, I ran into this elegant woman on the walk home and had to take her picture. I love her coat and scarf. So 'Desi', as in so Indian. I'm always stealing shawls, coats and tunics like this one from my mom's closet. And as for the scarf, she bought it at Fab India. If you ever get a chance to go to Bombay or another one of the big cities in India, make sure to go to Fab India. They have an incredible selection of clothes, jewellery, house stuff, all made by traditional artisans who are paid a fair and equitable wage for their beautiful work.

Posey Pants
The nice thing about Spring is that you can always count on flowers budding up everywhere, including in fashion. It's so great to see pretty floral patterns on blouses, scarves, and dresses - but they are even better on a skinny jean.
Anita in Brocade
I love this: a tough leather jacket paired with a ruffle blouse and brocade skirt.
So what is brocade exactly?
According to Wikipedia: Brocade is a class of richly decorative shuttle-woven fabrics, often made in colored silks and with or without gold and silver threads. The name, related to the same root as the word "broccoli", comes from Italian broccato meaning "embossed cloth," originally past participle of the verb broccare "to stud, set with nails," from brocco, "small nail," from Latin broccus, "projecting, pointed."
I'm not sure if this skirt fits the exact definition of brocade but when it looks this good, who cares?

Sweet as Chocolate
Thank goodness for ballet flats. Feminine, stylish, affordable, and they don't kill your feet or your back.
I stumbled upon Chocolate Shoes and their lovely designer on Queen Street West this weekend. In pastel colours, pok-a-dots, bows, ribbons, floral patterns and other pretty details - I was dying to take every pair home with me.
If you would like to see more of these lovely shoes go to: chocolateshoes-toronto.blogspot.com
Bus Stop
Well, if you have to wait for the bus or the streetcar, you might as well look cool and glamorous doing it. Didn't LL Cool J wax poetic about girls standing at bus stops?

Lean
This girl is rocking all kinds of chic. Geek glasses chic. Military coat chic. Walking down the street she looks as tall and lean as a skyscraper.
Gent
This classy gentleman was standing outside the front entrance of 'Stollerys' - a great store for those who keep it old school. And I don't mean 1980's gold chains and high top sneakers old school - although I do love that look too. I mean well tailored suits, classic trench coats, beautiful silk scarves, timeless style. Standing in the doorway, he reminded me of so many stylish gentlemen I had the pleasure of seeing in Spain. Gracias Señor.

Early Style Influence: Jem
One of the first shows I watched when we moved to Canada was Jem and the Holograms. Those two dimensional divas and their rivals the Misfits continue to influence style and design. Truly, truly, truly outrageous!

It's all in the family
My mother on her second birthday with her mom and dad. Love my Granddad's bow-tie, and my Grandma's sari with the peep-toe heels.
Check out my mom, a little older in this lovely checked silk dress, patent leather shoes, glass earrings and strawberry brooch. Not enough fruit inspired brooches these days.
I wrote an article about these pictures that you can read here: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2009/12/01/f-vp-fatah.html

Peace
I see these girls all the time around work, and they are always so fabulously dressed, and so cute.
I hope to have a lot of them on Kitten Walk in the posts to come.
